Sewing for a Cause
Do you want to learn how to sew, or are you in a sewing rut? Are you motivated to volunteer your time and skills to serve others in need?
See how my friends over at Sew Blessed Kentuckiana are using their sewing skills to serve underprivileged children in third world countries. Watch the video for a full tour of their organization and setup. Meet the people making it happen, get details, and learn how you can serve!

What They Do
Sew Blessed Kentuckiana Ministry makes beautiful t-shirt dresses and delivers them to children in third world countries. Each dress is one of a kind and stitched up with love by volunteers. The group runs on donations and volunteers, and anyone in the community is welcomed and encouraged to join. New to sewing? They provide on-site trainers that will teach any newbie the basic sewing skills needed. Each volunteer is able to "shop" the donations and design custom dresses for little girls. Let the fabric inspire you!
Here is an example of an adorable gray fox dress stitched up by a volunteer. You can do this!
What They Need
If you're interested in donating dress-making material, here are some basic needs:
- Comfy and Cute T-Shirts for Girls
- Cute Fabric for Skirt Attachments and Flutter Dresses
- Appliques, Trim, and Buttons
How You Can Help
Local to the area? Sew Blessed Kentuckiana meets the 2nd Friday of the month at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. Shop the supplies, talk to the trainer, take the materials home and start sewing! Contact Peg via their Facebook page for updates and details.
Not so local? Message Sew Blessed Kentuckiana on their Facebook page. They may accept donated supplies, dresses, or even guide you in setting up a volunteer organization in your area.
Hope this has been as motivating for you as it has been for us over at Sew Cute By Katie! Can't wait to see your lovely creations.
Be sure to share the video and spread the word!
Have a great day,
Katie Bertrand

Love this dress! Is there any way that I could get a copy of the sheet showing the measurements for the different sizes?
Hello, I found your organization’s name on Diary of a Quilter website. Are you still making quilts and dresses to donate? If yes, could I send you some fabrics and trims (rick rack, lace, buttons) from my personal stash that I am purging to prepare for a move. My home is smoke-free and pet free. I am thrilled to read about your generous work and dedication to help others!
Thank you! Jane Crandall
